MARUAH organised an event at Speakers’ Corner on 30th October, in conjunction with a postcard campaign, to draw attention to the upcoming elections in Burma/Myanmar. The postcard contents are reproduced below.
To the government of Singapore:
We are concerned for the people in Myanmar/Burma.
We want our government to join the international community and ask the present military government to take the following actions:
– free all political prisoners
– allow international observers from the UN to watch over the elections process
– repeal all laws and regulations that interfere with free and fair elections
We also want our government to support the call made by UN to establish a UN Commission of Inquiry into the international crimes in Myanmar/Burma.
