MARUAH is proud to present Me and My Friend Enjoy a Movie, an evening of powerful short films about people with disabilities living in a world that seldom sees nor hears them. Admission is free, but prior registration is required as seats are limited. The screenings will be at Golden Village, Great World City.

2. The number of seats you need (max four)

3. Your mobile phone number, in case of any last minute changes.

4. If any special assistance is required.

Please note: An email request should only be for a maximum of four seats. Because of limited seats, we cannot reserve more than that. You will receive an email in response, which will state clearly whether your request is confirmed, or you are on the waiting list.

If it is confirmed, you need to pick up your tickets at the door on the day of the screening no later than 6:30 pm, otherwise the tickets will be released to those on the waiting list. Tickets will be issued on a “best available seat” basis, so do come early.

SYNOPSES

Francais – by Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit (2009/Thailand/30 mins)
Cee, a blind college student submits her French philosophy course book, La pensée de Jacques Lacan for translation into Braille. However, the book is still not translated for collection a day before her test. With only one night to prepare for the examination Cee has to rely on her roommate to read the book aloud to her. Unfortunately, her roommate is unable to read a single word of French.

Lata At Tsinelas (Can & Slippers) – by Khavn de la Cruz (2005/Philippines/2 mins)
A young boy plays football with a can of Coke as his soccer ball and a pair of slippers as his soccer shoes amongst the alleys and slums of Manila. As he deftly shoots a goal into a rubbish dump, the audience is given a glimpse at why his dexterity is so extraordinary.

Peter – by Derrick Lui, Lee Chee Tian (2009/Singapore/26 mins)
A fateful accident in the swimming pool leaves Peter paralyzed from the neck down. This documentary provides insight into Peter’s life after the accident and reveals the courage and determination Peter exemplified despite the initial devastation and adversities that he had to endure.


DIRECTOR BIOS:

Nawapol was born in Bangkok, Thailand and is a graduate from the Faculty of Arts at Chulalongkorn University. Even though he majored in Chinese, he was really interested in film and everything about it. In 2003, Nawapol found the opportunity to work on his first film, My Shrunk House. He has since gone on to make a number of other films and has not looked back since.

As a film director, Khavn has made more than 15 features and 60 short films, several of which have won awards and have been showcased around the world. He is the Creative and Managing Director of Filmless Films, an independent digital film company, Oracafe Multimedia Arts Company and Avant-Pop Music, and festival director since 2002 of the .MOV International Digital Film Festival, Philippines’ first digital film festival. In alliance with other Filipino film professionals, Khavn founded the Philippine Independent Filmmakers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (Indie Coop) and has served on as jury in numerous festivals like the prestigious Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival (France) and Jeonju International Digital Film Festival (Korea). Khavn fronts The Brockas as a singer, songwriter and pianist.

Derrick Lui graduated with high distinction in media studies from Murdoch University, Australia, and started his carreer at MTV Asia, as a producer. He now works for the Singapore Ministry of Education, producing various corporate, videos, dramas, and documentaries for educational purposes.

Lee Chee Tian’s gift in creative writing has won him awards in song and script writing competitions. As an active drama practitioner, he shows his versatility in writing, directing and acting in various stage, television and film productions.
